BMW i3 charges at first public charging station featuring Combo Charging
A BMW i3 was fully charged in under 30-minutes at the first-ever public charging station in the US to offer the SAE Combo-Charging fast charging system. The public charging station is located at the Fashion Valley Mall in San Diego, CA. The optional fast charging system will enable the BMW i3 driver to charge their EV from a standard 110 volt outlet with a cord set, a 220 volt charging wallbox or public charging station and also from a DC Fast Charging public charging station all from the same charging inlet. “The start of the public DC Combo Fast Charging Infrastructure installations in the US is a great base for the US launch of the new BMW i3, because it will offer our customers the ability to recharge their EV in less than 30 minutes instead of the three hours needed with conventional 220 volt public charging stations” said Cliff Fietzek, Manager Connected eMobility at BMW of North America. As part of its continuing strategy to introduce product-relevant technology into racing, Ford announced today plans to bring its 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost® racing engine to the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship series. The new engine, which will debut at the 2014 Rolex 24 at Daytona Jan. 25-26, and run the entire 12-race season, will power a new-look Daytona Prototype car, created with Ford corporate design influence. ASTON MARTIN GT4 WINS AT NÜRBURGRING
Aston Martin’s Nürburgring Test Centre team has won its class in the seventh round of the 2013 VLN series having qualified on pole position. Running in the highly competitive SP10 category for GT4-specification cars, the #186 V8 Vantage set a qualifying time of 8:50.830 with Andy Gülden – chief instructor of Aston Martin’s Driving Academy – at the wheel. In dry and sunny conditions, he and team-mate Egon Allgäuer then drove superbly throughout the four-hour race to clinch victory by a mere 0.5 seconds from their nearest challenger to add to the Nürburgring Test Centre Team’s tally of VLN class wins. Also running in SP10, the Vantage GT4 of Team Mathol Racing finished in third position, within 30 seconds of the winning Aston Martin, having also completed 26 laps of the gruelling 15.5-mile circuit. In occasione della celebrazione del 50° Anniversario dell'Autodelta, organizzata a Monza dal RIAR (Registro Internazionale Alfa Romeo), la Montecarlo Automobile di Fulvio Maria Ballabio ha fatto debuttare in pista la GT “Carlo Chiti MonzaCodaLunga”. La vettura è infatti dedicata al celebre ingegnere toscano, fondatore dell'Autodelta, protagonista in F.1 e nel mondo della corse in generale con Ferrari, ATS, Alfa Romeo, nonché partner fondamentale di Fulvio Maria Ballabio nella nascita della Montecarlo Automobile. Infatti, nel corso della sua trentennale esistenza, la Casa monegasca ha utilizzato i motori di Carlo Chiti sulla Centenaire e si è avvalsa, fino alla scomparsa, della sua preziosa collaborazione tecnica. Il 3 e il 4 ottobre si svolgerà nei saloni di Villa di Bagno (Porto Mantovano, provincia di Mantova) la decima edizione di Autostyle Design Competition, viaggio alla scoperta del design automobilistico del futuro.
