UK: Bloggers, vloggers and Tweeters added to insurance occupations list
The digital tribe of YouTubers, bloggers and social media marketers simply haven’t existed as far as the UK car insurance industry is concerned - until now. While ancient, outdated or incredibly niche occupations including agisters, almoners and ostlers are catered for by the Association of British Insurers (ABI), modern careers in digital media do not appear on the lists used by insurers to rate car insurance premiums. Now specialist broker Adrian Flux, which has a number of high-profile YouTubers on its books, has brought the rating rule-books up to date by adding a number of overlooked occupations to its official list. “When was the last time you bumped into an agister or an ostler?” said general manager Gerry Bucke. “Cardinal is also on the list, which is great for the one cardinal in the UK, but the rapid recent growth of careers in digital media has clearly caught the ABI out and the list is very much in need of an update.” The ABI lists more than 2,100 … [Read more...]

International auctioneers COYS are putting under the hammer an important collection of fine automobiles and rare film memorabilia at their showstopper “True Greats” auction on 1st December at the Royal Horticultural Society in London. Featuring at the auction will be a 1984 Lamborghini Countach 5000 S, which appeared at a photocall at COYS headquarters in Richmond today (Thursday 26th November) alongside two Storm Troopers with their master, Darth Vader, in celebration of the upcoming film, The Force Awakens, which premiers in less than three weeks, on 17th December. This is the second Countach ever built out of the 5000 S series, finished in white with white leather interior, white flared wheels and a huge delta wing sprouting out from the rear boot lid. Chris Routledge, Managing Director of COYS, said: “This car is arguably the best … [Read more...]
Blockbuster movie time traveller Marty McFly could refuel his famous DeLorean car for same cost today as a tank of petrol cost in 1985, if he converted his car to run on autogas LPG.
Blockbuster movie time traveller Marty McFly could refuel his famous DeLorean car for same cost today as a tank of petrol cost in 1985, if he converted his car to run on autogas LPG. Figures from the AA Motoring Trust show that the average price of petrol in the UK in 1985 was around 44 pence per litre. Amazingly in the week that McFly time travelled to, the 150,000 canny motorists in the UK who drive on autogas LPG can still buy fuel at this same price or cheaper, at more than a dozen filling stations around the UK*. Meanwhile the average price for autogas at the UK’s other 1,400 LPG filling stations is only marginally higher at 55 ppl.** “It’s quite remarkable that drivers today can pay the same for a litre of LPG as they would for a litre of petrol all the way back in 1985,” comments Linda Gomersall, general manager, Autogas Limited. “I’m pretty sure that the cost of fuel wasn’t top of Marty’s concerns during his time travelling exploits, but nonetheless, I’m sure he would have … [Read more...]
