Silverstone Auctions has secured a rare 1970s Maserati for its auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show on the 15th and 16th November.
The Maserati Indy America was named so to celebrate Maserati’s victories at the Indy 500 race in the US. This classic Italian GT was first launched at the Turin Motor show in 1968 and combined space and pace, comfortably seating four people and hitting a top speed in excess of 150mph.
This 1972 4.7 Litre model, one of only 246 cars produced that year, is an original UK supplied right hand drive model and estimated at between £42,000 and £50,000. Over the last 18 months the car has been the subject of a major restoration including a full bare metal respray to the current colour of Rosso Corsa along with a complete interior retrim in beautiful ivory leather. Significant mechanical work has also been undertaken including new brakes and a rebuilt rear differential.
Guy Lees-Milne, classic car specialist, Silverstone Auctions said: “Maserati values have recently started to rise to coincide with the centenary year of the marque in 2014 so this rare and interesting car is sure to prove a canny acquisition.”
Silverstone Auctions has sold a number of Maserati’s this year for above pre-sale estimates. A 1969 barn find Ghibli sold at the International Trophy sale in May for nearly twice its estimate, while a rare 1975 Merak, auctioned at the same sale, sold for £10,000 over estimate.
Guy added: “This is a great opportunity for someone to join the world of classic Maserati ownership and this particular model would provide fantastic motoring for any enthusiast.”
