The world’s first stretched E-Type has been unveiled and will go on show in London later this week at a major automotive awards ceremony. Built in 1968, the left hand drive Jaguar E-Type series 1 4.2 roadster has been stretched by four and a half inches during a major restoration carried out by Classic Motor Cars Limited of Bridgnorth (CMC). Nick Goldthorp, Managing Director of CMC, said: “The car is phenomenal to drive. This is the E-Type that Jaguar Cars should have built. The extra space makes all the difference and actually alters the whole attitude of the car.” During the rebuild the owner, a client in the United States who intends to travel widely in country, requested a trailer to be built. CMC built this from two E-Type rear ends joined together. The trailer is ingeniously connected to the car via a removable tow hitch, which locks into position through the revering light aperture. All’asta una splendida Jaguar E-Type Series One con guida a sinistra
Quando è stata lanciata nel 1961, ad un prezzo molto conveniente, pari a 2,250 sterline, £ 38,000 secondo il valore odierno, la E-Type ha guadagnato immediatamente lo status di "celebrità". Enzo Ferrari la definì l'auto più bella del mondo e i suoi celebri proprietari del calibro di Steve McQueen, Brigitte Bardot e Britt Ekland, la resero rapidamente un' icona della moda. Per un breve periodo, auto più veloce del pianeta, la E-Type conserva ancora oggi il fascino di un tempo. L'esemplare in foto, è uno degli ultimi modelli Series One, con la guida a sinistra, usciti dalla fabbrica di Browns Lane a Coventry (UK). Jaguar E-type: il mito compie 50 anni
Simbolo più duraturo ed iconico di Jaguar, la E-type celebra i 50 anni di storia. Quando venne lanciata nel 1961, l'appeal della E-type andò oltre il mondo dell'automobilismo. Tale l'intrinseca perfezione delle sue proporzioni, della sua presenza e della purezza delle linee, che è in mostra permanente al Museum of Modern Art di New York (MOMA). In vendita per 14 anni, ha conosciuto proprietari come George Best, Brigitte Bardot, Tony Curtis e Steve McQueen. Oggi, dopo 50 anni dalla presentazione a Ginevra nel 1961, continua ad ispirare il lavoro del brand britannico per le Jaguar del futuro.
